Saratoga 2015 - Week Three

The final full week of the Orchestra’s residency at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center began on Wednesday, August 19. Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin returned to Saratoga to lead all four concerts, joined by Concertmaster David Kim, pianist Beatrice Rana, and violinist Joshua Bell. Playing for a Pope: The Music and the Meaning

It’s been a busy summer for The Philadelphia Orchestra: a triumphant tour of Europe, several Neighborhood Concerts, and dazzling series at the Mann Center, the Bravo! Vail Music Festival, and in Saratoga. Now, with a new season practically upon us, Yannick and the Philadelphians are gearing up for yet another peak musical experience: performing for Pope Francis, as part of the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia next month.

Saratoga 2015 - Week Two

Following a successful week one of residency at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC), the Philadelphia Orchestra’s second week of concerts kicked off with Conductor-in-Residence Cristian Măcelaru leading an All-Beethoven program on Wednesday, August 12, featuring Emanuel Ax performing the composer’s Third Piano Concerto. Also on the program were Beethoven's Overture from Coriolan and his Third Symphony, "Eroica."

Allison Vulgamore Explores the Layers of Meaning Behind the Papal Visit

Pope Francis’s visit to Philadelphia in September, in conjunction with the World Meeting of Families—Philadelphia 2015, will touch millions of people profoundly. And the Philadelphia Orchestra family is no exception. (The Orchestra under Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin will be joined by singing superstars Andrea Bocelli and Juanes for a concert on Saturday, September 26, and provide the music for the Papal Mass on Sunday the 27th, both on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.)

Saratoga 2015 - Week One

The Philadelphia Orchestra has performed each August at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) since the Center's founding in 1966. This year marks the Philadelphians’ 49th consecutive residency at Saratoga.
