As The Philadelphia Orchestra performs its final concerts of the 2015-16 subscription season, Yannick, the musicians, and the staff are busily getting ready for the 2016 Tour of Asia & China Residency, packing trunks, making final preparations, and assuring all is in order prior to their departure on May 16.

The 2016 Florida Tour closed with the Orchestra’s first-ever concert in Key Largo, on Friday, February 26. The concert was sponsored by Board Member Scott Schumacker and his wife, Cynthia, and was held at the Ocean Reef Cultural Center. Principal Guest Conductor Stéphane Denève and the Philadelphians were once again joined by violinist James Ehnes, this time for a performance of the Beethoven Concerto. The remainder of the program was Berlioz’s Overture to Beatrice and Benedict and excerpts from Mendelssohn’s Incidental Music to A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
The Orchestra traveled to Miami for the next leg of the 2016 Florida Tour. Stéphane Denève led a concert at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County’s Knight Concert Hall on Thursday, February 25. Earlier that day he led a workshop for the Leaders Orchestra of Miami Music Project (MMP) at Citrus Grove Middle School.
Denève leads the Miami Music Project students in a rehearsal featuring the third and fourth movements of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5.
The Philadelphia Orchestra performed two concerts under the direction of Principal Guest Conductor Stéphane Denève in West Palm Beach at the Kravis Center, Tuesday evening, February 23, and Wednesday afternoon, February 24. They also held a rehearsal Wednesday morning, which included James Ehnes and the Beethoven Violin Concerto, which will be performed later on the tour.
Denève, Ehnes, and the Orchestra perform Sibelius’s Concerto to close the first half of Tuesday’s concert.

Judging by the audience response, the Pearl River Delta Residency was a smashing success. Over the past week, as part of the Orchestra’s ongoing strategic partnership with China, musicians from the ensemble led by Assistant Conductor Lio Kuokman delighted music-lovers from Hong Kong to Macao to Shenzhen.
